To help avoid hitting a mine, the location of a suspected mine can be marked by flagging it with the right mouse button. Some squares are blank but some contain numbers (1 to 8), each number being the number of mines adjacent to the uncovered square. The location of the mines is discovered by a process of logic.Ĭlicking on the game board will reveal what is hidden underneath the chosen square or squares (a large number of blank squares may be revealed in one go if they are adjacent to each other). Also note that code will not work in Windows 95 or Windows NT.įor sound effects, add the line "SOUND=3" to WINMINE.The goal of the game is to uncover all the squares that do not contain mines without being "blown up" by clicking on a square with a mine underneath. Note: This trick works best if your Windows background is black. If it turns black, your cursor is resting on a mine. A white dot should appear in the upper-left corner of the screen. With your cursor inside the minesweeper window type "XYZZY" then press Shift-Enter and Enter. Next hit the ESC key while holding down both mouse buttons, and the timer is stopped! While playing, hold down the left and right mouse buttons and you should see a 3x3 square imprint on the board. Then, maximize the game again and the clock will be permanently frozen. There’s an easy-to-execute glitch/cheat in Minesweeper that will stop the game’s time so you can take your time completing each puzzle (hence getting the high score!) To do so, start a new game and then quickly hit the Windows key and the D key at the same time to minimize the game to the bar below (and any other program).
